But it appears the majority of us get too preoccupied with external input that we don’t allocate sufficient time for internal reflection and recognition of our own inherent unique strengths. As a result we risk living life feeling undervalued and underachieving.  The first step towards becoming resilient means aligning and using your inherent strengths and talents to thrive in life and in work.  At ITHRIVE our company values promote living a life of purpose, and in making a living in harmony with who you are at the core. 

We have two fascinating animal mascots that align with our vision and mission statements; the Owl – “who” supports our company mission, gives us knowledge, and the courage to seek deep within ourselves for answers. And the Eagle – which reminds us to keep our vision alive, allows us to see things strategically and far into the horizon, yet pay detailed attention to what is presently in front of us in the moment; an opportunity to provide expert planning guidance and performance coaching to working professionals, organizational leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs.

The story and experience
of Vikas Poni

The Story

Born in the state of Uttar Pradesh India, Vikas has humble beginnings to his life journey. His late father started his career as a communications technician who later went on to work for the Ministry of External Affairs, India and travelled the world working for the Indian Foreign Service. His mother has always been a loving homemaker.

Vikas’ learning journey is morphed in change. He started his primary schooling in London England, his secondary schooling in Cairo Egypt and graduated from the University of Cambridge GCE O & A Levels in Harare Zimbabwe prior to coming to  North Bay Ontario for his undergraduate studies. Needless to say these experiences have enabled Vikas into a worldly thinker with an appreciation for the connected world we live in. Vikas calls himself a global citizen and has a fondness for all cultures, religions, and life in general. However when it comes to vocation, he has focussed his passions on understanding business and people.  

Leaving family behind at the age of seventeen Vikas went on to pursue his Bachelors of Business Administration at Nipissing University – a university nestled in a quaint lake city in Northern Ontario Canada called the City of North Bay; this small city where he spent over a decade (a length of time he had never been stationary for thus far in his life). Constant change and adapting to challenges has been Vikas’ normal way of life. Staying in a quaint beautiful City for over a decade without family was both a major challenge and a blessing because it allowed Vikas the time he needed for self reflection and to properly formulate his self identity. In life we often get caught up with so much that is happening around us that we seldom make time to anchor into what we truly want from our life and discover who we really are at the core. This personal unclarity can be the single most important barrier to overcome prior to executing on any business idea and/or life changing decision.

THE EXPERIENCE

Our founder Vikas Poni is a certified teacher with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), he holds an MBA with the University of Alberta, an Honours in Technology Management degree with Nipissing University, and is a graduate of the Gallup Strengths Finder coaching and Prosci change management programs.

Vikas brings vast industry leadership, business and coaching experience to the company’s services. Vikas’ professional work experience spans over small business operations, provincial and municipal level government; consisting of both for profit and not for profit organizations where he has led several successful large scale change management and coaching initiatives.

Vikas brings to the company culture over a decade of strategic leadership and business planning experience with both unionized and non-unionized working environments.

Vikas founded ITHRIVE on indigenous cultural values after experiencing and understanding that the solution to address the “workforce burnout/decreased productivity” is directly related to a lack of individual self awareness, and the inability of the conventional education system to affordably offer culturally relevant mentorship and coaching services to help individuals timely achieve his or her true potential. Whether that translates to starting a personal business or switching careers/roles. 

Vikas believes this self awareness gap can easily be bridged for each individual through timely professional guidance, complemented with holistic culturally safe coaching, and training tools. It all starts with each individual looking deep inside oneself and first identifying unique talents and then being comfortable with WHO you really are.
